Out of the City

These past couple of weekends, Isaac and I were lucky enough to go on two mini-vacations. The first, with Markus, was to his parents’ place in Pemberton, BC. Set in a beautiful valley, Pemberton is one of my favorite places in the world. With the absolutely stunning views of Mount Currie, the Lillooet River, and the many creeks that make their way down the hillsides, it doesn’t get much better than that. The town has a really nice community feel to it. The current town project is the building of a large covered open barn farmers’ market for which my father-in-law has volunteered countless hours milling lumber. My in-laws’ house is set on 44 acres of farm land. They lease their land to local organic farmers and to a neighbour who boards horses. Even before we had Isaac, Markus and I would often dream of sharing this special place with our future children. Now that we have Isaac, those dreams are finally a reality.  Markus has so many fond memories of growing up in the small town. Making mud pies in his mom’s very large garden, building forts, skiing and snowboarding at Whistler, participating in town parades, and many more adventures that happen when kids are just allowed to play in nature and open spaces. Thus, we were very excited to get away from the city for a weekend in Pemberton. Here are some photos from our weekend:

Isaac in front of the playhouse his Grandpa made. It has a table, chairs, shelves, bunk bed, and flower box. You know, everything you need to make yourself at home.

Looking out at the field. We had fun walking through the long grass.

With Grandpa on the ride-a-mower. Super exciting!

Inspecting the tractor.

The next weekend my parents, Isaac, and I headed to Ucluelet on Vancouver Island. We had an awesome time hiking on the Wild Pacific Trail (in sun and rain), going to the beach and chilling at the condo. It was amazing watching Isaac discover the ocean and tidal pools. He absolutely loved the waves and I think he would have submerged himself completely if I had let him. As it was, he did get very wet despite the rain boots and full rain suit and of course, was very happy with this. Here are some more photos from our West Coast adventure:

Out for a rainy walk in the aptly named rain forest.

Having fun and staying dry in the backpack.

Water!

Sand! Very yummy indeed.

Yes that is a crab that he wanted to lick.

Enjoying the local delicacies.
